Biography:

Michael Lusignan is a Faculty Member at International Business University (IBU). He specializes in financial management, accounting information systems, auditing, financial analytics, and professional accounting education.

With more than 20 years of experience in financial services, accounting, and technology-driven business transformation, Michael Lusignan brings a strong practical perspective to finance and accounting education. His graduate research examined blockchain technology and Canadian corporate fixed income securities, reflecting his interest in how emerging technologies are reshaping finance.

At IBU, he teaches Financial Management, Financing and Valuing Ventures, Financial Analytics and Projections, and Capstone Applied Research in the MBA program. He is also Course Director for Auditing Standards and Applications at the Schulich School of Business. At York University’s School of Continuing Studies, he teaches auditing, accounting information systems, and statistical methods in the Post-Graduate Certificate in Advanced Professional Accounting.

Academic and Professional Contributions:

Michael Lusignan spent 18 years at BMO Financial Group in wealth management, investment research, and strategy roles. As Manager in BMO Wealth Distribution, he helped set sales strategy, analytics, and learning objectives for a national organization of 750 financial planners. He also led digital transformation initiatives, including the rollout of eSignature capabilities to 700 sales professionals. As a Research Associate at BMO Nesbitt Burns, he authored daily market commentary and led the rollout of a new investment research platform to more than 2,000 investment advisors, negotiating a 70% reduction from the initial vendor quote.

He has served as a marker for CPA Canada’s Common Final Examination and as Program Director for Lassonde Professional Development at York University. There he led program strategy and financial forecasting, and he delivered the course Financial Crimes and Countermeasures. He is Co-founder and CEO of Chionyx Systems, an emerging artificial intelligence company, and is a past Board Member of The Blockchain Hub, York University’s innovation hub for blockchain education and research.
