Ayhan Tek

Biography:

Ayhan Tek is a Faculty Member at International Business University (IBU). He specializes in cybersecurity architecture and governance, information systems audit, cloud security, identity and access management, privacy compliance, and cyber risk management.

With more than 20 years of experience in information security, technology, and IT service management, Ayhan Tek has led security programs for some of Canada’s largest financial institutions, retailers, and public sector organizations. He brings deep practical knowledge of security frameworks and regulatory requirements, including ISO 27001, NIST, PCI DSS, PIPEDA, PHIPA, SOX, and OSFI guidelines.

At IBU, he teaches Information Technology Management and Information Systems Audit and Cybersecurity. He has also taught cybersecurity and IT management at Centennial College, and he has delivered application security and cyber risk management training for FP Canada. His teaching connects security concepts with real-world risk, governance, and business decision-making.

Academic and Professional Contributions:

Ayhan Tek is Chief Information Security Consultant and Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) at Cyber Electra. There he leads security architecture, risk assessments, audit, and privacy compliance programs for clients including the Bank of Canada, Manulife, CIBC, Green Shield Canada, BlackBerry, and Ontario Health. Previously, he was Chief Security Architect at Hudson’s Bay Company, leading global security architecture across eight countries. He automated application security testing in the DevSecOps pipeline, saving an estimated $3 million per year.

As Senior Manager of Application Security at TD Bank, he led a team of senior security specialists and chaired a 200-member Application Security Council. His work shifting security earlier in the development lifecycle reduced remediation costs by an estimated $14 million per year. He has also held information security leadership roles at BMO and CIBC, where he guided more than 600 developers, architects, and testers in secure development practices. He served on the Board of Directors of SureLog Canada.
