Dr. Asher Ghaffar

Biography:

Dr. Asher Ghaffar is a Faculty Member at International Business University (IBU). He specializes in business and professional communication, academic writing pedagogy, academic integrity, world literature, and political philosophy.

With more than 15 years of teaching experience across Canadian universities and colleges, Dr. Asher Ghaffar brings an interdisciplinary background in social and political thought, literature, and writing instruction. His research examines world literature, continental philosophy, and questions of race, nation, and belonging. His teaching focuses on helping students communicate clearly, think critically, and engage in scholarly and professional conversations.

At IBU, he teaches Business Research and Communication and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in Canada in the Bachelor of Commerce program. He joined IBU as an inaugural faculty member and designed and developed the Business Research and Communication course. He currently serves as English Language and Writing Specialist at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he received the Contract Faculty Teaching Award in 2024.

Academic and Professional Contributions:

Dr. Asher Ghaffar has held leadership roles in writing support and academic integrity at several Canadian institutions. As Academic Integrity Specialist at Toronto Metropolitan University, he advised faculty and students on academic integrity policy, built a faculty community of practice, and launched the university-wide Academic Integrity Awareness Week. As Coordinator of the Writing Centre at the University of Calgary, he led a team of ten writing specialists and university-wide writing-in-the-disciplines initiatives. He has also served as a full-time Lecturer in technical and professional communication at the University of Saskatchewan.

He is the editor of History, Imperialism, Critique: New Essays in World Literature (Routledge) and has contributed to the Routledge Companion to Pakistani Anglophone Writing. His teaching and learning research has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the University of Calgary’s Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning. It has produced e-learning modules on academic integrity now used by incoming students. He is also a published poet with ECW Press.
