Dr. István Imre

Biography:

Dr. István Imre brings nearly two decades of academic and administrative leadership to his new role as Executive Dean and Vice President at International Business University (IBU). He joins IBU from Algoma University, where he most recently served as Vice President, Academic and Research, guiding the institution’s academic mission and research strategy.

Since beginning his academic career in 2006 as a tenure-track faculty member, Dr. Imre has advanced through progressively senior leadership roles, including Department Chair, Assistant Dean, Associate Academic Dean, Acting Academic Dean, and Associate Vice President Academic. At Algoma, he spearheaded transformative initiatives such as the 2021–2026 Academic Plan, the establishment of a Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the launch of multiple graduate-level programs aligned with provincial quality standards.

A recognized scholar in aquatic biology and fish behaviour, Dr. Imre has secured research funding from organizations such as the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and MITACS. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and supervised students from undergraduate to postdoctoral levels, consistently fostering excellence in research and mentorship.

Dr. Imre earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Concordia University, an M.Sc. in Zoology and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Fisheries Biology from the University of Guelph. He is also a graduate of executive leadership programs at the Ivey School of Business, the Schulich School of Business, and the University of Manitoba’s Senior University Administrators’ Course.

In his new role as Vice President and Executive Dean, Dr. Imre will provide strategic and operational leadership for all academic programs, faculty affairs, and research initiatives at IBU. He will play a key role in advancing our academic priorities, expanding partnerships with industry and professional sectors, and fostering a learning environment grounded in inclusivity, innovation, and student-centred education. Dr. Imre’s leadership will be instrumental in supporting IBU’s continued growth and in building upon our unique model of applied business education. His vision for student success, his extensive experience in program development and quality assurance, and his passion for fostering collaborative, high-performing academic communities align perfectly with IBU’s mission and future aspirations.
