Dr. Vezina President and Vice-Chancellor International Business University (IBU)

A visionary leader with over two decades of experience in higher education, government, and public administration, Dr. Vezina has built a distinguished career in executive and academic leadership, governance, and strategic growth. Recognized for her expertise in financial stewardship, risk management, and business transformation, she is a driving force in fostering innovation, industry partnerships, and internationalization—hallmarks of a modern, future-focused institution.

As President and Vice-Chancellor of International Business University (IBU), Dr. Vezina leads the expansion of Ontario’s first independent, not-for-profit university. She describes IBU as a natural fit for her transformative leadership style, championing a model inspired by esteemed global institutions. Designed with agility and innovation at its core, IBU is committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge demanded by emerging technologies, shifting societal needs, and the rapidly evolving global workforce.

Previously, Dr. Vezina served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University, where she spearheaded bold initiatives that expanded access to education, strengthened institutional partnerships, and fostered long-term sustainability. Her leadership was defined by a strategic vision that prioritized community impact and future readiness, ensuring the university remained a beacon of innovation and inclusivity. The Board Chair praised her tenure as “a driving force in broadening educational opportunities, deepening collaborations, and cultivating a university that elevates and empowers the voices of the communities it serves.”

Dr. Vezina has earned international and national recognition for her leadership in advancing equity in education, championing truth and reconciliation alongside Shingwauk Indian Residential School survivors, and spearheading initiatives focused on community wellness, mental health and addictions. Her dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships—locally, nationally, and internationally—is grounded in respect, reciprocity, and reconciliation.

Her contributions have been celebrated through numerous accolades, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal of Honour (2025), the Queen’s Jubilee Recognition (2023), the Athena International Women in Leadership Award (2021), the Network of Nigerians Canada Academic Innovation Award (2024), the City of Brampton Businessperson of the Year Award (2024), and the Chamber of Commerce President’s Award from the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
