Dr. István Imre

Biography:

Dr. István Imre is Executive Dean and Vice President at International Business University (IBU). He brings nearly two decades of experience in academic leadership, research, and higher education administration.

He joined IBU from Algoma University, where he served as Vice President, Academic and Research. In this role, he led the university’s academic mission and research strategy, including the development of the 2021-2026 Academic Plan, the establishment of a Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the launch of new graduate programs aligned with provincial quality standards.

Since beginning his academic career in 2006, Dr. István Imre has held a range of leadership roles, including Department Chair, Assistant Dean, Associate Academic Dean, Acting Academic Dean, and Associate Vice President Academic.

Academic and Research Contributions:

Dr. István Imre’s research focuses on aquatic biology and fish behaviour. He has received funding from organizations including the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and MITACS, and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals.

He has supervised students at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels, with a focus on research training and academic development.

Education and Professional Development

Dr. István Imre holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Concordia University, an M.Sc. in Zoology, and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Fisheries Biology from the University of Guelph.

He has also completed executive leadership programs at the Ivey School of Business, the Schulich School of Business, and the University of Manitoba’s Senior University Administrators’ Course.
