Dr. Marius Dobre

Biography:

Dr. Marius Dobre is a Faculty Member at International Business University (IBU). He specializes in strategic management, strategic renewal, competitive advantage in SMEs, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as AI and IoT.

With more than a decade of university teaching experience and nearly two decades of engineering leadership in the aerospace industry, Dr. Marius Dobre brings a strong combination of academic research and practical business insight. His doctoral research, defended with distinction, examined the technological, organizational, and environmental factors that drive emerging technology adoption and competitive advantage in SMEs. It introduced a new strategic renewal model to support SME leaders in decision-making.

At IBU, he teaches Strategy in the MBA program. He has taught information systems, project management, and marketing to undergraduate, graduate, and MBA students at York University since 2013, where students have recognized his teaching for 11 consecutive years. His classes use real-world scenarios to connect theory with practice and prepare students for successful careers.

Academic and Professional Contributions:

Dr. Marius Dobre spent 18 years at Honeywell Aerospace in senior engineering and program leadership roles. As Engineering Leader for Contract Manufacturing Operations, he led a 40-member cross-functional team through the strategic transition of manufacturing operations valued at $300 million in annual revenue. As Program Manager, he directed global teams of more than 85 members delivering integrated test facilities for major accounts including Airbus and Boeing. He also led a site-wide SAP implementation. Earlier in his career, he held program and systems integration roles at Bombardier Aerospace.

His research paper on emerging technologies and strategic renewal in SMEs received the Best Developmental Paper Award in the E-Business and E-Government track at the 2023 British Academy of Management Conference. He has mentored more than 20 students into graduate programs in Canada and Europe and into roles with leading employers, including RBC, TD, and IBM.
