Joanne Shoveller

Biography:

Joanne Shoveller served as President and Vice-Chancellor of International Business University (IBU) from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024. She brought extensive leadership experience in higher education, advancement, and international academic initiatives.
Prior to joining IBU, Joanne Shoveller was Vice President of Advancement at the University of Waterloo (2017–2021). Earlier in her career, she held progressive leadership roles in continuing education, university advancement, and at the Ivey Business School at Western University.
In 1997, she was part of the founding team that established Ivey’s Asian campus in Hong Kong, contributing to the development of its Executive MBA, research, case-writing, and fundraising programs. In 2001, she played a key role in the successful completion of the Ivey Campaign and later led the Ivey MBA program until 2004, where she strengthened the student cohort and supported curriculum development.

Leadership and Global Experience:

Joanne Shoveller led advancement initiatives at the University of Guelph (2004–2012) and INSEAD Business School in France (2012–2016). In these roles, she built strong alumni, donor, and corporate partnerships, increased charitable giving, and contributed to institutional strategy, including the launch of major capital campaigns.
She has also been actively involved as a volunteer with organizations across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa, bringing a global perspective to her work in higher education.

Education:

Joanne Shoveller holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University.

Leadership at IBU:

During her tenure at IBU, Joanne Shoveller focused on building an accessible and flexible learning environment for a diverse student population. She supported the development of a strong academic foundation, worked closely with faculty to enhance teaching quality, and helped establish partnerships with industry and government.
