Mahabubur Rahman

Biography:

Mahabubur Rahman is a Faculty Member at International Business University (IBU). He specializes in cybersecurity, information systems audit, cloud computing, virtualization, and network and server administration.

With more than 25 years of IT experience, including over 9 years of teaching, Mahabubur Rahman brings a practical, hands-on approach to technology education. His teaching covers network security, ethical hacking, incident response, cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS, and Windows and Linux server administration. He uses lab-driven learning so students build practical skills they can apply directly in the workplace.

At IBU, he teaches Information Systems Audit and Cybersecurity in the MBA program, incorporating frameworks such as COBIT, NIST, and ISO/IEC 27001. He has also served as IT Instructor and Program Lead at Alpha College, in partnership with St. Lawrence College, delivering cybersecurity curriculum to more than 300 students each year. He has also taught Computer Virtualization at Georgian College, where his students achieved a course success rate above 90%.

Academic and Professional Contributions:

Mahabubur Rahman has trained more than 1,500 students in network, cloud, and security administration. Many of his graduates have gone on to IT roles, supported by his one-on-one mentorship and job search guidance. He has designed hands-on lab curricula and adult-centred learning programs that improved student engagement and practical performance.

He is currently IT Administrator at New Leaf: Living and Learning Together, where he leads IT infrastructure, Microsoft 365 security, and cybersecurity governance across multiple locations. This includes developing policies on cybersecurity, AI use, data retention, and incident management. Earlier, he spent nearly a decade as Systems and Network Administrator at OTOBI Limited, managing networks across 25 sites and more than 50 servers for 500+ users while maintaining 99.9% uptime.
