Marvin Hough
Biography:
Marvin Hough draws on 30 years of trade facilitation experience with Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s official export credit agency. He served in various locations with EDC including Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Beijing, New Delhi and Mexico City. His senior roles included Regional Vice-President, Asia and Regional Vice President, Latin America.
Following his retirement from EDC, Mr. Hough joined the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa where he was involved in the international business area and taught international business courses in the EMBA, MBA and Undergrad programs. He was also a key participant in the annual Telfer EMBA international business consulting trip.
Mr. Hough has served on various trade association and academic boards including the Canada – India Business Council (C-IBC), Canada China Business Council (CCBC), Hong Kong Canada Business Association (HKCBA), Canadian International Council (CIC) and the Program Advisory Committees (PACs) for international business at Centennial College and George Brown College.
Since finishing his tenure at Telfer, Mr. Hough has published two books related to the international business domain – “A Career in International Trade” and “The International Business Culture Pathfinder” which have been endorsed by the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT). He also mentors young professionals looking to develop their careers in the international trade arena and guest lectures at colleges and universities.
MIRA, founded by Mr. Hough, provides international research and analysis services to Canadian companies, educational institutions and government departments focused on key strategic markets including India, China, and Mexico. Clients have included Global Affairs, EDC, Algonquin College and various Canadian companies pursuing business in global markets.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. Hough, received a Bachelor of Commerce degree (with Distinction) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alberta. He also holds the CITP/FIBP designations from FITT.
