Biography:
Tim McTiernan is a member of the Board at International Business University (IBU). He is President Emeritus of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and served as its President and Vice-Chancellor from 2011 to 2017.
He also holds an appointment as an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and has been a Visiting Scholar at the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts (Mod) from Trinity College Dublin and completed his MA and PhD in Psychology at the University of British Columbia.
Academic and Policy Contributions:
Tim McTiernan has contributed to research and academic discourse through publications, presentations, and policy work. His work includes over a dozen book chapters and journal articles, along with more than 75 conference papers, invited presentations, and keynote addresses.
His areas of focus include innovation and commercialization, regional and sectoral economic development, postsecondary education policy, and sustainable development.
Governance and Board Experience:
Tim McTiernan has held numerous appointments on public sector and not-for-profit boards. He was a founding board member of MaRS Innovation and a founding member of both the Dispute Resolution Board under the Yukon First Nations Land Claims Settlement Act and the Environmental Impact Screening Committee under the Western Arctic (Inuvialuit) Claims Settlement Act.
