Entrance Scholarships

IBU is pleased to welcome new students. We offer two types of entrance scholarships.

Entrance Scholarships for Academic Achievement

IBU wants to recognize your hard work in secondary school!
 You will automatically be considered for a merit-based entrance scholarship if you fulfill the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident (PR status);
  • Current full-time secondary school student (with continuous full-time secondary school enrollment for the past four years)
 OR completed full-time secondary school studies no more than one academic year before your admission semester at IBU (with continuous full-time secondary school enrollment for four years);
  • Beginning post-secondary studies for the first time;
  • Will be registered full-time* in your IBU degree program.

Entrance scholarships are granted for each of your first two IBU semesters. They are awarded based on the average of your top six Ontario Grade 12 U or M final full credit course grades, including the specific required courses for your program (or equivalent Grade 12 final credit course grades from secondary schools outside of Ontario)**.

*Full-time status at IBU, which is required for entrance scholarships, is defined as a minimum course load of 80% (12 credit hours). Entrance scholarships will be cancelled if you drop courses and reduce your course load to fewer than 12 credit hours at any time during that semester. **Determining the credits used to calculate your Grade 12 average rests solely with IBU. Any changes to final secondary school grades received after August 1 will not result in a recalculation of your average.

Allocation of Entrance Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Admission Average Admission Average Scholarship Award for Semester 1 of First Year
95% and higher $3,000 $3,000***
90 to 94.9% $1,500 $1,500***
80 to 89.9% $1,000 $1,000

***If you earn a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.0 for your second semester, you will also receive this scholarship in your third semester. You will continue to receive the scholarship as long as you take a full-time (80%) course load and earn a minimum 4.0 semesterly GPA, up to a maximum of eight semesters.
Registering full-time and maintaining a 4.0 GPA each semester will give you the maximum eight entrance scholarship awards.

General Entrance Scholarships

You will be granted an entrance scholarship of $750 for each of the first two semesters if you:

  • Did not receive a merit-based entrance scholarship;
  • Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (PR status);
  • Will be registered full-time* in your IBU degree program.
